How are we going to help achieve these SDGs?
#No Poverty
We are working towards this sustainable development goal by helping farmers to produce higher crop yields, which will then boost the agricultural market and the wider economy. these farmers will experience an increased income, which will improve the quality of life of their families.
More than 700 million people, or 10% of the world population, still live in extreme poverty.' - UN Website
#Zero Hunger
We are working towards this sustainable development goal through introducing our mechanical device that will Reduce manual labour of farmers and increase the work done efficiency, thus producing higher crop yields in shorter periods of time, resulting in a decrease of malnourishment across rural communities.
'An estimated 821 million people were undernourished in 2017.' - UN Website
#Decent Work and Economic Growth
We are working towards this sustainable development goal by providing agricultural workers the opportunity to switch from subsistence to commercial farming. Through this change, we will be able to create profitable jobs for farmers and generate economic growth.
'Some 700 million workers lived in extreme or modern poverty in 2018, with less than US $3.20 per day' - UN Website
#Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure
We are working towards this sustainable development goal by aiding economic growth, which would then lead to greater investments into infrastructure, allowing for effective food distribution. This would thus tackle one of the two main causes of food insecurity.
'Less than 50% of the rural population lives close to adequate roads, which poses difficulty for farmers transporting inputs and produce.' - Farming First
#Sustainable Cities and Communities
We are working towards this sustainable development goal by constructing our device out of bamboo, a sustainable resource, and repurposed bicycle parts. We are also reducing fuel consumption, as we are offering a mechanical alternative to tractors, and are therefore reducing the contribution to climate change.
'Bamboo also grows much faster than its hardwood and softwood equivalents. As such, it can be harvested every three to seven years. Typically, timber is harvested when trees are around 30-50 years old. It also takes less energy and other resources to produce bamboo over wood or steel.' - ecoandbeyond
#Responsible Consumption and Production
We are working towards this sustainable development goal by establishing a circular economy. once our products no longer function, we will repurpose them into new items. As mentioned on our previous post, we will also use materials from sustainable sources to create our product.
'Should the global population reach 9.6 billion by 2050, the equivalent of almost three planets could be required to provide the natural resources needed to sustain current lifestyles.' - UN Website
#Climate Action
We are working towards this sustainable development goal by designing our product to use the no-tillage farming technique, which will minimise soil disturbance and thus allow for more carbon sequestration. This means that more carbon is kept within the soil, which not only results in a healthier soil biome, but also ensures less carbon is released into the atmosphere.
'The new IPCC report estimates that serious changes in forestry and agriculture to curtail deforestation and improve soil management could reduce global emissions by 5% to 20%' - The Conversation
